Lot 292:
6" Natural Thorny Oyster Shell Cluster on Marine Reef Growth Matrix
6" Natural Thorny Oyster Shell Cluster on Marine Reef Growth Matrix
Measures approximately 7 inches in overall height. Natural marine shell formation composed of multiple thorny oyster shells (Spondylus) attached to a consolidated calcareous reef growth matrix. The specimen displays an impressive three-dimensional arrangement with deeply ribbed shells, projecting spines, and attractive pink, cream, ivory, and white coloration throughout. Several thorny oyster shells remain naturally integrated within the marine growth structure, creating a striking oceanic display specimen with strong natural history appeal.
The calcareous reef matrix exhibits porous marine growth, mineralized surfaces, and extensive natural accretions formed through prolonged development in a marine environment. The shells emerge organically from the growth structure rather than appearing as an assembled grouping, preserving the authentic appearance of a natural reef formation. The interiors display smooth lustrous white surfaces contrasting sharply with the textured exterior shell growth and marine deposits.
Highly desirable as a natural history specimen, cabinet of curiosities display, maritime collectible, coastal decor piece, reef formation, ocean specimen, and marine shell display. The combination of thorny oyster shells, calcareous marine growth, reef matrix development, and dramatic sculptural form creates exceptional visual impact from all viewing angles.
Condition consistent with natural marine growth and collection. Minor edge wear and natural losses to projecting spines. An unusual and visually compelling marine shell cluster retaining excellent display presence, strong collector appeal, and outstanding natural character.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
