Hand Carved Archaic Style Chinese Stone Pig Dragon Pendant, Late Qing to Republic Period
Hand carved stone pendant in the form of a stylized pig dragon zhi long executed in an archaic Chinese folk art tradition. The curling body simplified head and incised line details echo ancient zoomorphic motifs while reflecting the expressive regional carving styles of late Qing to Republic period workshops. A biconical suspension hole created using traditional abrasive drilling methods further supports this traditional craftsmanship.
The surface shows natural wear and patination consistent with age and handling giving the piece a warm time softened character.
A distinctive example of Chinese archaic style stone carving with strong sculptural presence.
Measures 2 3/8 in.
