9+ Inch Pre-Columbian Pottery Zoomorphic Effigy Vessel
9+ Inch Pre-Columbian Pottery Zoomorphic Effigy Vessel
Pre-Columbian pottery zoomorphic effigy vessel measuring over 9 inches in length, formed as a hollow quadruped with elongated muzzle, short tail, four integral legs, and a broad flaring neck opening rising from the animal’s back. Hand-built earthenware construction with a red-slipped exterior displaying visible burnishing, well-developed surface maturation, and strong visual appeal. The pottery fabric is consistent throughout the vessel, with modeled anatomical details including a shaped head, tail, and incised toe markings. Surface exhibits excellent ancient patination with mineral accretions, earthen deposits, and darkened areas of age-related discoloration developed over long-term burial and aging. Condition is notably solid with no visible restoration observed, retaining its original structural integrity and exhibiting only expected ancient wear, surface abrasion, and scattered losses to the slip. Excellent patination, surviving slip, mineralization, weathering patterns, and overall preservation support the artifact’s antiquity. No repairs or restoration observed. Ex Randy Hudson Collection. Possibly originating from the Lower Central American region, including present-day Costa Rica or Nicaragua.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
