2 Pre-Columbian Pottery Anthropomorphic Tripod Vessel Supports
2 Pre-Columbian Pottery Anthropomorphic Tripod Vessel Supports
Group of two Pre-Columbian pottery anthropomorphic vessel supports, each measuring over 2 1/2 inches in height. Both are modeled as stylized human faces with prominent appliqued noses, rounded eyes, and incised or molded mouth details beneath broad attachment surfaces. One example retains traces of red slip over the exterior while the second exhibits a more weathered earthen surface with visible age-related erosion. Hand-formed pottery construction with solid bodies consistent with tripod vessel supports rather than independent figures. Surface characteristics include ancient wear, mineral deposits, earthen encrustations, and well-developed patination accumulated over time. The red-slipped example retains remnants of its original surface finish, while both pieces display strong archaeological aging and preservation. Condition is solid overall with expected losses, edge wear, and ancient surface weathering. Excellent patination, mineralization, and long-term surface maturation support the antiquity of the pieces. No repairs or restoration observed. Ex Randy Hudson Collection. Possibly originating from the Lower Central American region, including present-day Costa Rica or Nicaragua.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
