2.25 Inch Spiny Ammonite Fossil Specimen

Natural ammonite fossil specimen displaying a tightly coiled shell with pronounced tuberculate ornamentation and raised nodules along the outer whorls. The specimen exhibits strong three-dimensional relief with prominent ribbing and nodular growth features that create a distinctive sculptural appearance.

Measures approximately 2.25 inches across at its widest visible dimension.

The fossil is preserved in cream, tan, gray, and brown mineralized tones with areas of translucent shell preservation visible throughout the whorls. Distinct growth ribs radiate outward from the umbilical region and terminate in prominent tubercles along the shell shoulders. Natural mineral replacement and preservation have produced attractive color variation and substantial surface detail.

Visible geological features include preserved whorl structure, chambered shell architecture, pronounced nodular ornamentation, and exposed fossil shell material. Areas of mineralization accentuate the shell morphology while retaining fine details of the original ammonite growth pattern. Several portions display natural matrix retention within recessed areas of the shell.

Condition is good overall with strong visual presentation. The specimen is partially complete, with natural losses to portions of the outer whorl. Surface wear, edge losses, matrix retention, and fossilization-related irregularities are present and consistent with geological preservation and recovery.

Examination of visible features supports identification as an authentic ammonite fossil. No repairs or restoration are evident from the visible surfaces.
